20ねんごのわたし

20ねんごわたしは家族がいます。しゅじんとこどもがさん人います。ニューヨークにうちがあります。わたしのうちはちさくありません、大きです。うちの近くにレストランやデパートがたくさんあります。そして、うちは便利です。しごとのところもうちのちかくです。まいにちしゅじんはごはんをつくります。しゅじんは料理が上手ですが、わたしは料理があまり上手じゃありません。いっしゅかんに一回わたしとかぞくはいっしょに映画をみます。

Trip to China

Even though Columbia's fall break is only two days, I went back to China o visit my grandfather because he has been sick. By the time I got back, he didn't recover. It was sad to see him lying in the hospital. I remember when I was little, he and my grandmother used to take me to the hospital a lot. My grandmother passed away 9 years ago and now it might his turn. Everybody has to go through the pain of losing family members. It is painful to see people who you are close with leave you one by one. Time keeps passing and life keeps going no matter how sad you feel. C'est la vie.

Why Studying Japanese

I study Japanese because I find the language very intriguing. As a Chinese who immigrated to America, I speak both Chinese and English fluently. Japanese is not hard to understand at the beginning because I know kanji and many English words that are spelled in katakana. Also Japanese culture has been largely influenced by China in the past, especially the Tang dynasty. All these factors draw me into studying Japanese. By learning Japanese I could understand my culture heritage better.
 I watch a lot of Japanese movies and animation so my goal is to be able to at least understand them without looking at subtitles. I am confident in achieving my goal.
